Liberty and Tyranny appeared in the early months of the Obama presidency and became an immediate best seller on the New York Times list, holding the #1 spot for twelve weeks.

islamic imperialism Efraim KIslamic Imperialism, a History by Efrain Karsh challenges scholars and Muslim leaders to refute his own picture of Islam: an imperialist seventh-century Arabic movement that forced itself on neighboring lands such as today’s Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Egypt. Containing 30 pages of footnotes and sources, it is a history of how the Muslim mainstream has behaved toward its neighbors. Tracing the beginnings of Islam to the 610 A.D. revelation to Muhammad that he is the Messenger of God it follows its development through to 2006, with an epilogue tying many aspects together.  This is a very illuminating text for today’s reader.

agenda 21 glen beckAgenda 21  A fictional thriller by Glenn Beck and Harriet Park, following on the heels of his #1 Bestselling thriller (The Overton Window), Agenda 21 weaves the very real developmental and environmental objectives of the actual U.N.’s Agenda 21 into a fast-paced relatable novel.  Drawn in to the experience of a young woman who suddenly finds herself alone in a world she doesn’t quite understand, the reader learns along with her, that things were not always as they are now…and perhaps don’t have to be.  The storyline plays out the ideas and concepts contained in the real Agenda 21 proposed plan of action to their extreme ends; this book is both entertaining and packed with information.

The Little blue bookThe Little Blue Book; The Essential Guide to Thinking and Talking Democratic is described by its co-authors as, “…a handbook for Democrats, intended for immediate use in the current political moment”.  George Lakoff and Elisabeth Wehling draw distinct lines between talking and action; and thought.  They assert that pundits may assess the former but cannot effectively assess the latter.  The authors state that, “Messaging is about thinking, not just language.  To get language right, you have to understand the thought it conjures up”.  The relationship between politics and various moral structures is examined, and, not surprisingly, “Extreme Conservatism” is ultimately deigned a “threat to humane government everywhere.”  The reader is specifically told how to re-frame arguments and to say, for example, “Conservative office holders who refuse to raise taxes as a matter of conservative principle are creating deficits (their emphasis)”.  They advocate for the “sacred moral mission of government”.  A very interesting read, there is a lot to be debated here!
