According to Ask Online Dictionary, Republicanism is an ideology of governing a nation as a “republic” with emphasis on liberty, rule of law, popular sovereignty, and civic virtue practiced by citizens. It stands in opposition to aristocracy, oligarchy, and dictatorship. It refers to a political system that protects liberty especially by incorporating the rule of law. Republicanism demands citizenry and puts a premium on civil virtue and opposes corruption.
There are different types of Republicanism which include; Contemporary, Classical, and Enlightenment to name a few. Each varies slightly different. Contemporary is anti-monarchal and pretty much what the states follow. Classical or more imporantlyu civic humanism, created during the rennaissance. And enlightment which follows the Jeffersonian type.
